Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is minimally invasive treatment for cancer. Advances in radiation therapy allow us to localize and pinpoint tumors, delivering treatment at the site of the cancer and sparing healthy tissue around it.

At the Swedish Cancer Care Center, our radiation oncology team works as a part of the multidisciplinary cancer committee to create the best, most effective treatment plans for our patients. Using careful imaging planning, an individualized treatment plan is developed for each patient.

Reasons for radiation therapy include:

  • Managing the spread or growth of cancer
  • Curing cancer by eliminating the spread or growth
  • Reducing or eliminating pain

The Swedish Cancer Care Center Radiation Oncology Program specializes in treaments for cancer in the brain, skin, head and neck, breast, lung, gynecologic, GI, liver and prostate.

The Swedish Cancer Care Center Radiation Oncology Program is located in south Denver at Swedish Medical Center. It is accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. The program works closely with Colorado Cancer Research Program and participates in Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) studies.
