State-of-the-Art Level III NICU for Premature & Very Sick Babies

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Swedish provides care for the most critically ill babies. Our unit, which is located on the 5th floor of the hospital, has been certified a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, which means we treat seriously ill newborns and babies.

Newly Renovated Facility is One-of-a-Kind

The Swedish Medical Center NICU recently underwent a major renovation, and opened to patients in early February 2009. The new NICU is the only one of its kind in Colorado, boasting a family-style design. Family-style offers each patient a private room, offering our patients individualized, womb-like environments and allowing parents the option to room-in with their newborn, an added opportunity to bond.

• For both security and infection control purposes our unit is locked at all times and special identification is required to gain access.
• A family waiting area is located adjacent to the unit for parents and visitors.
• A refrigerator and breastfeeding supplies are provided within the unit for breastfeeding moms
• Families are invited to Swedish's NICU Graduate Reunion, held each fall. This event provides families a chance to spend time with their baby's caregivers and visit with other NICU graduates and their families.
• Our NICU families are invited to a Free BabySafe Class tailored especially to the needs of NICU families.
