Meckel’s Diverticulum Scan at Swedish
Information and Preparation Instructions
The purpose of this exam is to look for Meckel’s Diverticulum with functioning gastric mucosa. Please arrive in the Radiology department for the admissions process. A nuclear medicine technologist will greet you for the appointment. A radiologist will inject you with a radioactive tracer. A small intravenous (I.V.) line will be started by the technologist for the exam. The technologist will inject a radioactive tracer through the I.V. and images will begin immediately. The radiotracer will not cause any allergic reaction or symptoms. Imaging will take approximately 1 hour.
Before Your Meckel's Diverticulum Scan
- No barium, CAT scan or oral contrast 48 hours prior to exam
- Nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior to exam
- Please empty bladder prior to exam
